Wedding vows

The wedding vows are promises made by the bride and groom to each other during a wedding ceremony. In Western culture, this pledge has traditionally included the notions of affection (love, comfort, keep), faithfulness (forsaking all others), unconditionality (for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health), and permanence (as long as we both shall live, until death do us part). You can chose to write your own wedding vows, rather than relying on standard wedding vows samples.

Wedding speches

In most Western countries, following a meal with copious quantities of food and alcohol (traditionally paid for by the bride’s family and known as the wedding breakfast), speches are made by members of the wedding party wishing the couple well in the future. Traditionally, the speaking parties include the bride’s father and the groom. In the modern times, speches are more often given by the best man and the maid of honor.

After the speches, the bride and groom begin their first dance, which used to be called the “bridal waltz”; in most contemporary weddings a recent romantic pop song is played and the bride and groom’s dance is rarely an actual waltz.

What to Say in a wedding spech

Again, there are not set rules for what to include in a wedding spech. One general rule of thumb regarding wedding speches is to maintain a certain level of appropriateness.

Wedding speches should contain a thank you to friends, family and guests, a summary of your relationship with the couple and wishes for their continued happiness and success.
